Our Story
At Mason Dixon Distillery, our story starts with curiosity, craftsmanship, and a little bit of trouble.
Founder Yianni Barakos built his first still at just 11 years old, working from a sketch his grandfather made for him. After nearly burning down the garage attempting to make moonshine, he was quickly relocated to practicing outside where his passion only grew stronger. Years later, an apprenticeship in West Virginia sharpened his skills and brought his distilling knowledge up to a professional level.
Bringing Mason Dixon Distillery to life took more than passion. Yianni spent over a year securing the proper licenses and painstakingly restoring the 100-year-old factory that now houses the distillery. From the outside, the building blends in with the surrounding industrial landscape, but inside, it tells a different story.
Step inside and you’ll find restored brick walls, original wood beams, and a warm, energetic atmosphere. Inspired by traditional German beer halls, our communal seating invites conversation, connection, and a shared experience making us one of the most unique things to do in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
We are proud to be a grain-to-glass distillery in Gettysburg, crafting our spirits on-site from scratch. Whenever possible, we use locally sourced ingredients to create high-quality, handcrafted liquor that reflects our region.
